Cougar Pride Statue Dedication

Cougar Pride statues are being installed system-wide thanks to a
generous gift from Gary Schneidmiller,’71!

The inaugural Cougar Pride statue was installed on the Pullman campus in 2008.
A replica of this statue was subsequently installed on the WSU Tri-Cities campus in Spring 2023.

Looking ahead to 2024, WSU will finalize the installation of statues across its various campuses, including WSU Spokane, WSU Everett, and WSU Vancouver.

Gary Schneidmiller generously donated this sculpture to celebrate the cherished tradition of a live cougar mascot at WSU,
spanning more than half a century, from 1927 to 1978.

In homage to this tradition, Butch returns home with Cougar Pride, dedicated in honor of Manuel (’41, WSC) and Gladys Schneidmiller, Gary’s parents.

“I am hopeful that Cougars everywhere rekindle and reconnect with that special WSU feeling when they visit Butch.”
– Gary Schneidmiller
