Ashton’s Story
A Coug fan since boyhood, Ashton Tripp grew up in Kennewick, WA, where he played football at Kennewick High School. When WSU recruited him and offered a scholarship, he couldn’t have been more excited to play for the university he’d always loved. Though he’d been playing football since age nine, one of his most thrilling moments came during his freshman year at WSU: running onto the field in his Cougar uniform and helmet for his first home game—the announcer’s voice echoing, the crowd roaring—he was finally playing for the team he’d cheered for since he was a kid.
Today, Ashton plays on the offensive line for Cougar football and is a construction management major in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. He hopes to pursue professional football, but also dreams of starting a residential construction business.
Talking Cougs, Community, and Impact
Receiving the Dix Family Endowed Scholarship for Athletics and Construction Management means the world to me. College likely wasn’t an option for me without it. Coming to WSU has opened so many doors, and I greatly appreciate this opportunity.
I’ve been very involved with the football team and football activities. My goal in the fall is to become a team captain—to be the one the team looks to for support. As of now, I’m working to build my leadership skills and learning from coaches and other peers.
One moment of many that made me proud to be a Coug was walking off the field at Ole Miss and seeing how many Cougs took the time to travel to that stadium was very appreciated.
After I graduate, I’ll always be a supporter of this university and give back in any way I can!
My goal is to go play professional football for as long as I can. After that, the plan is to use my construction management degree to start a construction contracting business, likely in the residential field.
The opportunity I’ve been given is life-changing, and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. The three years I’ve spent on the Pullman campus have been amazing. It’s been great traveling for football games, representing WSU, and furthering my education. I’ve met so many people I never would have met otherwise, and I’m excited for what the next two years will bring!
You know you’re a Coug when you consider Pullman to be a national landmark!
