Modern buildings, state-of-the-art laboratories and galleries, and technology-ready classrooms, libraries, and study spaces are all essential for world-class teaching, research, and recruitment of top faculty and students. The dissemination of knowledge depends on properly equipped facilities and infrastructure.
Through the Campaign for WSU, the University seeks $130 million in private investment in new construction, infrastructure upgrades, facilities renovations, and the replacement of obsolete equipment university-wide. If WSU is to compete in the 21st century—in the laboratories, in the classrooms, and on the playing fields—this critical goal must be met.

Our Gift to WSU
The expert and compassionate care provided to their dog "Scout" by WSU alumnus and veterinarian John Oplinger '79 turned Joe and Barb Mendelson into big believers in the University's mission.
The Mendelson's were so grateful, they chose to give back to Dr. Oplinger's alma mater. Their first gift to WSU in 1997 started a cancer fund in Scout's name, and they have supported the College of Veterinary Medicine ever since.
Then, in 2010, the Mendelsons made an extraordinary commitment, funding the purchase of a 16-slice spiral computed tomography scanner for the college. The new scanner reduces the imaging time of small animals, such as cats and dogs, to seconds, in many cases without general anesthesia. And the faster speed increases the number of horses that can be scanned from a few per months to 10 times that rate.
We knew that a CT scanner would help everybody for a long time," says Joe. "I've been around horses my whole life and the old CT scanner wasn't adequate for what the veterinarians are doing at WSU."
Joe and Barbara Mendelson live in Santa Barbara, California. Although neither attended WSU, they have become loyal Cougars and dear friends of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
