Arts & Culture

Exposure to artistic and cultural expression are crucial for a well-rounded human experience, providing our communities with versatile tools for self-expression and creativity, and for interpreting other cultures in new contexts. In addition to its teaching, research, and service mission, Washington State University contributes to the cultural vitality of the community through exhibits, performances, and educational programs.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Supporters of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU form a community that values art and critical thinking as catalysts for growth and connection. Your support creates vital opportunities to expand the cultural education of WSU students, develop programs and materials for learners of all ages, and preserve art with both local and national significance.

For over fifty years, Washington State University’s art museum has served as a cultural hub for the rural communities of the Pacific Northwest. As the only dedicated visual arts museum between Seattle and Missoula, the WSU Schnitzer Museum champions excellence, collaboration, and lifelong learning. Our goal is to foster a vibrant, inclusive environment that places art at the heart of society, encouraging dialogue, cultural understanding, and social change.

With your support, we can continue to inspire, engage, and educate diverse audiences by sharing world-class exhibitions with K-12 schools, families, and the WSU community.

Buy-a-Bus Fund

You can help bring students to WSU! The Buy-a-Bus program reimburses bus trips for K-12 students, covering transportation costs so they can visit the art museum. Founded by the late WSU professor Eugene Rosa, the program is designed to make art accessible to more students. In his words: “Many people find art—especially abstract or provocative art—intimidating. I wanted to introduce the excitement of the visual arts to people who, because of their isolated location, might never get exposed to art in a museum setting.”

For many K-12 students in the region, their visit to the art museum is a first experience with museum-quality art and an exciting opportunity to explore a college campus. Thousands of students from underserved communities have had this enriching experience, thanks to the Buy-a-Bus program. Help us keep this program strong and thriving!
