International Programs
Campaign Goal: $30.5 Million
Facing the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world, land-grant universities are vital platforms for innovation in knowledge discovery and practical implementation. With a long-standing history of global engagement, Washington State University is positioned to expand services that will benefit people throughout our state, nation, and world.
At the center of this rich heritage, WSU International Programs leads, champions, and serves the colleges and campuses of WSU in research, education, outreach, and economic development initiatives. These programs cover a broad range of globally focused initiatives–from molding our students into globally competent citizens to programs that enrich livelihoods, empowering people at home and abroad.
WSU International Programs supports Washington State University with global learning and service opportunities that internationalize the University community in important ways. The goal is to provide programs, experiences, and competencies that contribute to a stronger, global, knowledge-based economy in Washington state and throughout the world.
GLOBAL LEARNING, SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
Increased resources for Global Learning will allow WSU to integrate international study across the curriculum. Global Learning expansion will also allow for more service-learning opportunities tied to study abroad experiences, enhancing intercultural competencies and enriching students in ways that will help them become global leaders. The opportunity to study abroad is a life-changing experience. Today’s students enthusiastically seek these opportunities but few can afford to take advantage of such programs. Through an endowed study abroad scholarship program, International Programs will provide many more WSU students the opportunity to experience the world.
Global Services, including travel and visa assistance, will be enhanced to meet increasing international student enrollment. The International Center and its programs will provide students with more opportunities to interact with and learn from students from more than 90 countries. These students live and study on all WSU campuses, including the newly formed Global Campus at WSU. Special programs including the Intensive American Language Center, Global Case Competition, the “Global Bridge” and “Friends and Family” will round out the experience of all students as they become global citizens.
GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS - LOCAL BENEFIT
International Programs will lead the effort to expand academic and research partnerships with public and private institutions that further WSU's research in key areas. These include bioenergy projects in partnership with Australia and China, drought-resistant crops with India and Indonesia, and animal health projects with Kenya and Brazil. These collaborations ensure that our students and researchers have access to expertise that interlinks our lives and livelihoods at home and abroad. By expanding WSU's ability to share its expertise in agriculture, animal health, business, engineering, and many other areas, we are changing lives for the better across the planet.
