College of Education

Campaign Goal: $18.5 Million
At the Washington State University College of Education, we know there’s a lot riding on how well we do our job. The quality of our faculty and programs is directly related to the skilled work force that each business needs to succeed and that the United States needs to compete in a global marketplace. That’s why, through the Campaign for WSU, we’re seeking the resources to:
- Expand our cohort of effective school and community leaders
- Improve mathematics and science education
- Meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population
- Get the youngest learners off to a good start
- Strengthen our work in health-related fields
The College of Education boosts economic development by preparing school superintendents and principals and by graduating more than 400 new teachers each year who, in turn, fill the pipeline of well-prepared employees for our nation’s workforce. Our graduates are critical thinkers whose professional skills have been enhanced by the discoveries of our faculty researchers. They know which techniques keep students wholly engaged in the educational experience. They can navigate the rough seas of school district financing and high-stakes testing.
In a testament to the quality of our graduate programs, the College of Education was invited by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to participate in its initiatives to improve Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs nationwide. We all know that some schools are struggling, and that even “good enough” schools aren’t good enough. It takes excellent schools to attract employees, who in turn build strong communities.
The College of Education has a state, national, and international reputation for producing school leaders and teachers and sponsoring programs that advance the health and strength of our schools and communities. Our goal is to develop the potential of students in all of our programs so that they, in turn, will model leadership for the many people whose lives they touch. That ripple effect will help ensure that the world has the educated citizenry and skilled leadership necessary for the 21st century.
Education is never-ending. There is always more to learn. We invite our alumni, business people, and others who believe in the value of education to join with us to realize our campaign priorities. We welcome not only your financial contributions, but your advocacy and your insights.
